Upholding the compassionate vow of the Founding Abbot Grand Master Weichueh to propagate Buddhadharma and Chan teachings far and wide, Venerable Abbot Jianying embarked on a Dharma propagation journey to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, from March 16th to 18th, 2025, in response to the earnest requests of devout lay practitioners.
During his visit, Venerable Master Jianying presided over the Liang Huang Jeweled Repentance Completion Ceremony and the Three Refuges and Five Precepts Transmission Ceremony at Great Buddha Monastery and delivered a Dharma talk to all participants. Hundreds of devoted practitioners, including both Chinese and Thai devotees, gathered joyfully to attend the assembly, with nearly a hundred laypeople sincerely seeking to receive the Three Refuges and Five Precepts.
In celebration of the two-year anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU) and Chung Tai Chan Monastery, Venerable Abbot Jianying and Most Venerable Prof. Dr. Phra Brahmawatcharatheeracharn, the Rector of MCU, jointly presided over the "Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism Mutual Exchange & World Peace Blessing Ceremony" at Great Buddha Monastery.
On March 10, 2025, Venerable Abbot Jianying of Chung Tai Chan Monastery was invited by the "2025 Forum of the University System of Taipei" to speak at National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech). The lecture titled "A Buddhist Perspective on AI Development and Its Challenges" drew an audience of over 1,200 attendees, including faculty and students from the four universities of the Taipei United University System—National Taipei University, National Taipei University of Technology, Taipei Medical University, and National Taiwan Ocean University—as well as experts and scholars from various fields. The event was held at Taipei Tech’s Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall.
To uphold the Founding Abbot, Grand Master Weichueh’s vision to awaken and encourage college and university Buddhist club leaders to share the Dharma on campus, the monastery organized a "Nationwide College and University Buddhist Club Leadership Training Camp" from February 8 to 10, 2025. Nearly 40 colleges and universities from across Taiwan participated, with club presidents and leaders gathering at Chung Tai in a spirit of joy and dedication.
We all inherently possess a pure mind, but delusions and attachments obscure our realization of it. By regularly freeing ourselves from entanglements, we remain on the path to discovering our true self.
The architecture of Chung Tai Chan Monastery harmoniously integrates elements of art, culture and technology with the Dharma, and serves as a demonstration of the “Five Directions of Spreading Buddhism.” It was awarded the “Taiwan Architecture Award” in 2002, and the “International Award for Lighting Design” in 2003, writing a new page in 21st century Buddhist architecture.
Our habitual tendency to engage the six senses—eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind—in seeking and clinging to external stimuli can be tamed by observing the eight precepts. These precepts serve as guardrails, protecting us from transgressions and shielding us from negative karma.
Compassion is one of Buddhism’s fundamental tenets. Eating a vegetarian diet with the intention to save sentient beings helps us live gentler and purer lives. Here, we regularly share healthy vegetarian recipes so you can not only experience the joy of vegetarian eating, but also cultivate a more compassionate mind.
