Venerable Master Jianying Shares Buddhist Insights on Three Life Views for the AI Era at National Taichung University of Science and Technology

On May 7, 2025, Venerable Abbot Jianying of Chung Tai Chan Monastery was invited by National Taichung University of Science and Technology to deliver a speech titled “Three Life Views from Buddhist Wisdom for the AI Era.” The talk began at 3:30 p.m. and was held at the university’s International Conference Hall. This event drew nearly 200 enthusiastic participants, including the university president, faculty members, students, alumni, and guests.

In his speech, Venerable Jianying expounded on the three life views offered by the wisdom of Buddhism: a worldview on the non-duality of emptiness and existence and interdependence, an outlook on life that all beings can attain awakening, and a value system rooted in compassion and warm-hearted choices. He emphasized cultivating rigorous self-discipline to develop pure wisdom in order to realize a life that balances inner discipline with inner freedom.

Abbot Jianying further presented the “One Mind, Five Strengths” framework as a means to address the challenges of the AI era, characterized by rapid change, growing complexity, and compounding difficulties: with a pure mind as the foundation, one cultivates stable self-discipline, mindful awareness, adaptive flexibility, warm-hearted compassion, and inner freedom grounded in the middle way. While AI may shape the future we live in, he noted, it is the three life views inspired by Buddhist teachings that will help foster a future that is harmonious, compassionate, equitable, and self-determined.

Through his insightful exposition of the three life views and the methods for cultivating them, Venerable Jianying guided the audience in finding direction in the ever-evolving landscape of the AI age. The event concluded at 5:30 p.m., leaving attendees deeply inspired and filled with Dharma joy.
